Ep 10: How to Stay in Your Weight Loss Zone After WLS

If you're in the weight loss phase after your bariatric surgery, understanding your "weight loss zone" — and how to stay in it — could be one of the most valuable things you do for your results. Let me explain what I mean.

What Is the Weight Loss Zone?

Think of it as a continuum. On one end, you're eating too little — too few calories and too little protein. Your body feels like it's in a famine and holds onto fat rather than releasing it. On the other end, you're eating too much — too many calories, often in the form of carbohydrates and fats — and weight loss slows or stops.

Your weight loss zone sits in the middle: adequate protein, a modest calorie deficit, and eating regularly. This is the sweet spot where your body feels safe and confident to release fat — while preserving lean muscle mass and keeping you satisfied.

What Pulls You Out of the Zone?

On the undereating side: nausea, low appetite, inadequate support, or bringing a "less is more" dieting mindset into your post-surgery journey. On the overeating side: milky coffees adding up, grazing after dinner, protein intake dropping as carbohydrate and fat intake quietly rises.

A Real Client Example

Sarah came to work with me five months after surgery. Her weight loss had stopped at just three months. When we went through an observation period together, we identified three key things pulling her out of her weight loss zone: too many milky coffees and ice lattes, low protein intake earlier in the day, and a deeply ingrained habit of snacking with her partner after dinner.

We didn't overhaul everything at once. We set a protein goal for before dinner, limited (but didn't eliminate) her coffees, and worked on my protein bites ratio for meals out. Her weight loss resumed — because we brought her back into her zone.

The same approach is available to you. It starts with observation, compassion, and the right support.
